A huge thank you to North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Porthmadog crew and Gwawr for visiting Ysgol Eifionydd today. Year 8 pupils have been writing creatively about wildfires in their English lessons and this was a fantastic opportunity to ask questions and experience first-hand what it’s like to be a firefighter!
English Department
Some of our Year 8 pupils entered a poetry competition celebrating 75 years of Eryri National Park. We are very proud of their creative poems, inspired by Eryri and the environment. Here is a sample of their creativity. Good luck.
The languages departments
To mark National Poetry Day and the National Year of Reading, we held an assembly to celebrate local writers: Prifardd Rhys Iorwerth and Casia Wiliam, award-winning author and former Children’s Poet of Wales. Their message? Pick up a book, pick up a pen — we all have creativity within us! Thank you for inspiring us
We welcomed PC Rhiannon Wright to school to discuss and reinforce with year 8 pupils, the important message around anti-social behaviour. It was a valuable opportunity for our pupils to discuss how their choices and behaviour can affect others and the wider community.
We have enjoyed a range of important and thought-provoking messages in our assemblies over the past fortnight, thanks to contributions from tutor groups 8SS/BM, Year 9 and the i-Feddwl (Humanities) Area of Learning and Experience.
Mr Ifan Jones, Head of i-Feddwl, shared his fascinating journey on Moel Hebog to Owain Glyndŵr’s Cave, marking Owain Glyndŵr Day and bringing local history to life for our pupils.
We also heard powerful messages from Year 9 pupils about social media, through a presentation they had created as part of their work in the English Department. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed. It is wonderful to see our departments, tutor groups and pupils using assemblies to share what matters to them and to give the rest of the school a flavour of their learning, interests and experiences.
Urdd
A big thank you to Simon from the Urdd for joining us over the past fortnight to lead assemblies with pupils in Years 7–11.
Our pupils had the opportunity to hear about the wide range of exciting opportunities the Urdd has to offer over the coming months — with fantastic opportunities across many different areas to get involved, develop skills, try new experiences and enjoy using the Welsh language.
Thank you, Simon, for sharing all the information and for encouraging our pupils to make the most of the opportunities available!
